Here’s what our investigation of Dallas Habitat for Humanity revealed

After Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity’s board terminated its CEO in October, The Dallas Morning News began examining the nonprofit’s finances and land holdings. We found that Dallas Habitat, which was once one of the top affiliates in the country, is now struggling in its mission to provide new homes to low-income families. Part of that struggle stems from a series of avoidable missteps, The News found.

Presented with The News’ findings, new Habitat CEO Ashley Brundage and incoming board chair Steve Westerheide acknowledged the mistakes. They told The News there’s a need for better oversight in the future.
